Welcome to GodGab

Thanks for stopping by.

Each online community is different, and one needs to spend some significant time on each board to see if it’s "right for them". It’s basically a dating period. Consider this post our online dating profile. If you like what you see, then start communicating (and here its free).

Godgab.org is a community based around religious discussion. We are not all religious. Politics seems to have very quickly become our second hot topic making this site the quintessential antithesis of the modern proverb, 'never discuss religion and politics with friends.'

Most other religiously themed sites quickly derail to being filled with thoughtless snide comments. Godgab is different. We pride ourselves on thoughtful discussions about religion and politics in all realms. We do very little moderating of posts, and have seen that with a mature community, trouble people normally just go away.

So if the idea of a community where open discussion is encouraged, where no topic is off-limits, and where freedom to speak (well, type) your mind intersects with brilliant perspectives from people across the globe appeals to you, then Godgab is the place for you.

Had enough? Start posting.

Still with me? A few facts:
  • Godgab was started by atheists determined to have a place where religion could be discussed sensibly.
  • Most of our early members found their way here from slashdot... many of them are still active.
  • There are moderators. They are hard to find because we feel like moderation is for spam, and that's about it. Post what you think, don't sweat the mods.
  • For a brief period Godgab was offline, when its founder went AWOL and the domain expired. This is the reincarnation of Godgab, which was started anew from scratch after the domain was reacquired.
  • This is how GodGab is run: Two individuals who do not know each other in the real world have full access to the Administrative logins for the site. This ensures that if one were to disappear, the other can keep the site alive and bring on a second person. The people who have Admin rights are just normal posters who are active in the community. The little donate button is linked to a Paypal account maintained by one of them. The financial records are disclosed in a google doc open to all mods. Why so much redundancy? Let’s just say we know better this time around.

A note about content on this site: Some folks consider certain issues "dirty". We can't help that. We think that's kinda silly. If you’re offended by the conversations here, then find it in your heart to have grace for folks, or move on. We are adults here, and often discuss "adult topics". That said, we are not crass or offensive about it. Links to material that is questionable is often tagged [NSFW] (Not Safe For Work).

Things to keep in mind:
If something you're reading doesn't really make sense, watch Firefly, then re-read. It most likely will.
If something you're reading still doesn't make sense, watch Battlestar, then re-read. It most likely will.
If something you're reading still doesn't make sense, just set the DVR to the SciFi Channel... the reference is in there somewhere (especially now that Lost is moving to SciFi).

Enjoy!

Awesome stuff! And if you start with a short intro post in this forum, your chances of getting in past the spam filter climbs a lot.
