"Sea Kittens" vs. "Land Fish" The taste test.

I haven't posted in while, and happened to be reading through a few threads when I noticed that someone mentioned we only save the "cute" animals. Just for reference I'm a biologist working for NOAA in the Fisheries sampling branch. I've always thought that PETA was more of an impediment to biologists, since many people don't take the group seriously. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but after searching "Sea Kittens" on google I have officially switched over to the PETA is totally useless camp.

What does everyone else think? Does PETA really benefit the environment or are they more a source of controversy? I often feel that PETA is good at mobilizing people to a cause, but that cause is often not very well thought out. People tend to lump all biologists in with PETA, but the majority of the people I work with think they get in the way of well thought out management.

Also what do you folks think about fried "Land Fish"? Could be tasty.

Holy cow, I cannot believe I missed this topic!
"Sea kitten" is as stupid a rallying cry as has been created in the history of the world, and I prefer mine fried.
On the other hand, what the hell is a land fish? I'm racking my brains, and all I can figure is chickens, since tuna is the chicken of the sea, and chicken salad sandwiches taste like tuna sandwiches, hold the extra mercury.

Ancient threads are getting resurrected lately.
I have nothing in particular to contribute, except that I recall coming across someone who was trying to rebrand insects as "land shrimp", for culinary purposes.

Actually, I suppose this relates to my recent topic on parasites--we've been driving disease-causing species to extinction. First smallpox, now guinea worms. There appears to be a "Save the Guinea Worm" foundation, but I think it's tongue-in-cheek.
