I'm not a baseball fan so I can't rule on the intricacies, but I think the general rule is human-stealing = ok, technological-stealing = bad.

I don't know where that line is if lip-reading falls on the technological side. I was thinking people see it as something like magic and magic is bad. But baseball has a long history of superstitions.

I was thinking more of an emergent morality. Sometimes we don't know if something is right/wrong because we have to wait and see how people react. And that's further complicated by a strong bias towards one's favorite team. And that's why I was asking whether this is a new thing or something we already know how to handle.
